How it works
Alcohol is directly hepatotoxic — it is processed entirely by the liver and produces acetaldehyde, which causes liver cell death and inflammation. In the presence of jaundice, even small amounts can cause serious additional liver damage.
Alcohol must be completely stopped — not reduced. If jaundice is caused by alcohol-related liver disease, permanent cessation is required. Withdrawal from heavy alcohol use should be medically supervised.
Complete alcohol avoidance is the single most important modifiable intervention in alcohol-related jaundice and is universally required in all jaundice management regardless of cause.

“Some improvement but not as dramatic as I hoped. Might need longer to see full benefit. Still continuing.”
