Applied Tension (Blood-Injection-Injury Phobia)

for Fears and Phobias

Applied tension is a unique technique developed specifically for blood-injection-injury (BII) phobia, which causes fainting rather than typical fight-or-flight. Tensing large muscle groups prevents the vasovagal response.

How it works

BII phobia triggers a biphasic response: initial sympathetic arousal followed by a parasympathetic crash causing fainting. Muscle tensing sustains blood pressure and prevents the vasovagal syncope response.

What to watch for

Only relevant for blood-injection-injury phobia specifically. Not appropriate for other phobia types. Combined with graduated exposure to medical contexts.
