Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)

for Stress

An adaptogenic root from Ayurvedic medicine, taken as a capsule or powder to help the body handle stress and lower background anxiety. Most studies use 300-600mg of a standardised extract once or twice daily with food. Consistent use over 4-8 weeks tends to produce the most noticeable effect.

How it works

Reduces cortisol levels by modulating HPA axis activity. Withanolides (active compounds) show anxiolytic effects via GABA receptor modulation and anti-inflammatory pathways.

What to watch for

Avoid in pregnancy. Rare cases of liver injury reported at very high doses. May interact with thyroid medications. Choose standardised KSM-66 or Sensoril extracts for best evidence.
