for Diarrhoea
An OTC preparation with antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-secretory properties used for travellers' diarrhoea and acute gastroenteritis.
How it works
Bismuth forms insoluble salts that inhibit fluid secretion. The salicylate component has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties effective against common enteropathogens.
What to watch for
Turns stools and tongue temporarily black (harmless). Avoid with aspirin allergy, in children under 12, and in pregnancy. Contains salicylates — interacts with warfarin.
