How it works
Coal tar reduces abnormal keratinocyte proliferation, has anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effects and can help normalise skin cell turnover in psoriasis.
Can stain clothing and skin temporarily. Strong smell. Some people find it irritating. Avoid on broken or infected skin. There are theoretical concerns about carcinogenicity with very long-term use though evidence is weak.
Coal tar has been used for over a century in psoriasis treatment with good evidence of efficacy. Still recommended in BAD and NICE guidelines as a first-line topical option.

βSome improvement but not as dramatic as I hoped. Might need longer to see full benefit. Still continuing.β
