How it works

Reduces anticipatory anxiety by modifying threat appraisal β€” the cognitive process by which feared outcomes are evaluated as both likely and unmanageable. Works best in combination with exposure.

Less effective as a standalone treatment for specific phobias than exposure alone. Most powerful when combined with behavioural exposure as part of CBT.
