Cytisine (Tabex)

Cytisine is a plant-derived partial nicotinic agonist (from laburnum seeds) used in Eastern Europe for decades. It works similarly to varenicline and is available as Tabex in Australia.
How it works
Partial agonist at nicotinic acetylcholine receptors — reduces withdrawal and cravings while blocking nicotine reward. Same mechanism as varenicline but from a natural plant source.
What to watch for
Available without prescription in Australia. Less studied than varenicline but lower cost and good tolerability. Nausea and sleep disturbance are the most common side effects.
