How it works
Gingerols and shogaols in ginger act on 5-HT3 receptors and substance P pathways involved in the vomiting reflex. Also accelerates gastric emptying.
Safe in pregnancy at recommended doses. Very high doses may interact with anticoagulants. Consult a doctor if nausea is severe or unexplained.
Multiple RCTs confirm ginger is effective for pregnancy-related nausea, chemotherapy-induced nausea and postoperative nausea. Cochrane review supports its use in pregnancy.
