How it works
Ginkgo biloba has antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties. Oxidative stress is implicated in melanocyte destruction in vitiligo. Ginkgo may protect melanocytes from free radical damage and modulate the autoimmune response.
May interact with blood thinning medications including warfarin and aspirin - consult GP before use. Not recommended before surgery. Evidence is from small RCTs only. Standardised extract (EGb761) used in studies - quality of commercial products varies.
Availability
Available at pharmacies and health food stores without prescription. The form of supplement matters — check the remedy description for the recommended form.
