High Fluid Intake

for Kidney Stones

Drinking 2.5-3 litres of water daily is the most important preventive measure and helps small stones pass. Adequate urine output dilutes stone-forming substances.

How it works

High fluid intake produces dilute urine, reducing the concentration of stone-forming minerals and likelihood of crystal formation.

What to watch for

Aim for pale yellow urine. Increase intake in hot weather or during exercise. Spread throughout the day.

Duration: Still doing it

Difficulty: Manageable

Improvement: Yes clearly

I had kidney stones 4 years ago and they were extremely painful. I was recommended drinking water on a very regular basis which I have done ever since. I have permanent bottle in the car by my bed and at my desk. Once you start drinking regularly it becomes much easier and you just start consuming more by habit. No sign of stones at this stage.
