How it works

Aescin, the active compound, reduces vascular permeability, inhibits enzymes that break down vein wall proteins and has anti-inflammatory effects on venous tissue.

Use standardised extracts only. Do not consume raw horse chestnut — it is toxic. May interact with blood thinners. Consult your doctor if on anticoagulants.

Why strong evidence

Cochrane review of 17 trials found HCSE reduces leg pain, swelling and itching comparably to compression stockings. One of the best-evidenced herbal remedies in vascular health.

Noticeably less frequent issues after about a month of consistent use. Worth sticking with.

Good results overall. Had to adjust the approach slightly but found what worked for me. Would recommend trying it.

Some improvement but not as dramatic as I hoped. Might need longer to see full benefit. Still continuing.
