How it works
Adequate hydration increases urine volume and frequency, enhancing kidney clearance of uric acid and reducing the concentration at which crystals form in joints.
Avoid alcohol particularly beer and spirits which significantly raise uric acid levels. Avoid sugary drinks including fruit juice which can also raise uric acid.
Strong mechanistic evidence. Dehydration concentrates uric acid and is a recognised trigger for acute gout attacks. Consistent recommendation across rheumatology guidelines.

“Some improvement but not as dramatic as I hoped. Might need longer to see full benefit. Still continuing.”
