Ketoconazole Shampoo

for Hair Loss

An antifungal shampoo (1–2% ketoconazole) used twice weekly that reduces scalp inflammation and has a secondary anti-androgenic effect on follicles, slowing pattern hair loss.

How it works

Ketoconazole inhibits scalp fungal overgrowth (which amplifies DHT-driven inflammation), directly inhibits 5-alpha-reductase at the follicle, and reduces local DHT and inflammatory cytokine levels.

What to watch for

Used as an adjunct to minoxidil or finasteride — not a standalone treatment. 1% is OTC; 2% may require prescription. Leave on for 2–5 minutes before rinsing for full effect.
