How it works

Loperamide slows gut motility by acting on opioid receptors in the gut wall, reducing stool frequency.

What to watch for

Not for bloody diarrhoea or suspected bacterial gastroenteritis - can worsen certain infections. Not for children under 12. Not a substitute for rehydration.
