How it works

Purines are broken down into uric acid in the body. Reducing dietary purine intake lowers uric acid production and reduces the frequency of gout attacks.

Diet alone is rarely sufficient to normalise uric acid levels but meaningfully reduces attack frequency. Most people also require medication for full control.

Why strong evidence

Strong epidemiological and mechanistic evidence linking purine-rich diet to gout attacks. Dietary modification is recommended as first-line alongside medication in all gout guidelines.

β€œSome improvement but not as dramatic as I hoped. Might need longer to see full benefit. Still continuing.”
