How it works
L-phenylalanine is a precursor to tyrosine, which in turn is the precursor to melanin. Supplementation may increase substrate availability for melanin synthesis in residual and perilesional melanocytes.
Most effective combined with UV light therapy. Contraindicated in phenylketonuria (PKU). Evidence base is limited and largely from older small studies.
