How it works
Mechanically reduces muscle tension by disrupting trigger point formation. Increases local blood flow and lymphatic drainage. Stimulates endorphin and serotonin release, raising the pain threshold.
Timing matters for DOMS â massage 24â72 hours post-exercise is most beneficial. Intense massage in the first 24 hours post-injury can worsen acute inflammation. Foam rolling is a self-applicable alternative.
Finding a practitioner
Seek a qualified and registered practitioner. In Australia, check AHPRA (ahpra.gov.au) for registered health practitioners including physiotherapists, psychologists, and Chinese medicine practitioners.
