McKenzie Method

for Sciatica

The McKenzie Method (Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy) identifies the specific directional movement that centralises or reduces sciatica symptoms, using extension or flexion exercises tailored to each patient.

How it works

Uses the concept of directional preference — many disc-related sciaticas respond to end-range extension or lateral shift correction, which progressively centralises and abolishes leg pain.

What to watch for

Requires trained McKenzie therapist to determine the correct directional preference. Not all sciaticas have a directional preference. Highly effective for the subgroup where it applies.
