How it works

Chronic stress activates the sympathetic nervous system, raising cortisol and adrenaline. Meditation reduces sympathetic activation and lowers resting blood pressure.

Not a replacement for medication in moderate-to-severe hypertension. Best used as a complementary approach.

Why moderate evidence

Systematic reviews show meditation reduces systolic BP by 3–5 mmHg. Transcendental Meditation has the strongest evidence base.
