How it works

Prolongs the anagen (growth) phase of hair follicles, increases follicle size and improves blood flow to the scalp. Mechanism not fully established.

Must be used continuously β€” hair loss resumes within months of stopping. Can cause initial increased shedding in the first 2 months (normal). Some people experience scalp irritation.

Why very strong evidence

Minoxidil is the only FDA-approved over-the-counter treatment for androgenetic alopecia. Decades of RCT evidence demonstrate it halts progression and stimulates regrowth in the majority of users.

β€œSome improvement but not as dramatic as I hoped. Might need longer to see full benefit. Still continuing.”
