How it works

Emollients restore the disrupted skin barrier in psoriasis, reducing transepidermal water loss, softening scales and reducing the inflammation triggered by a dry, compromised barrier.

Apply immediately after bathing to lock in moisture. Ointments are more effective than lotions. Avoid fragranced products which can irritate psoriatic skin.

Why strong evidence

Consistent evidence and universal recommendation in psoriasis guidelines. Emollients are first-line adjunct therapy that reduces the need for topical steroids.
