How it works

During sleep the foot naturally plantar-flexes, allowing the fascia to shorten. The first painful steps in the morning occur as shortened tissue is suddenly stretched. Night splints maintain stretch overnight.

Can be uncomfortable to sleep with initially. Dorsal (front) splints are more comfortable than posterior (back) splints for most people.

Why strong evidence

Several RCTs show night splints significantly reduce morning pain in plantar fasciitis. Most effective for chronic cases where stretching alone is insufficient.
