for Rheumatoid Arthritis
NSAIDs are used for short-term symptom relief in rheumatoid arthritis — managing pain and stiffness during flares or during the lag period before DMARDs reach full effect.
How it works
COX inhibition reduces prostaglandin-driven joint pain and swelling. Does not modify underlying RA disease process or slow joint damage.
What to watch for
NSAIDs manage symptoms but do not slow RA progression. They are used as a bridge while awaiting DMARD effect or as needed for flare management. Long-term use not recommended due to GI/cardiovascular risks. Always use alongside, not instead of, DMARDs.
