How it works

COX inhibition reduces prostaglandin-driven joint pain and swelling. Does not modify underlying RA disease process or slow joint damage.

NSAIDs manage symptoms but do not slow RA progression. They are used as a bridge while awaiting DMARD effect or as needed for flare management. Long-term use not recommended due to GI/cardiovascular risks. Always use alongside, not instead of, DMARDs.
