How it works
COX inhibition reduces local prostaglandin-driven inflammation in the subacromial bursa and rotator cuff tendons. Oral NSAIDs have systemic anti-inflammatory effects; topical preparations are locally concentrated.
Use for shortest effective duration. Topical diclofenac gel may be preferred for localised shoulder pain to reduce systemic exposure. Not appropriate for long-term management.
