Oat Beta-Glucan

for High Cholesterol

Eating 3g or more of oat beta-glucan daily through oatmeal, oat bran or oat-based foods to reduce LDL cholesterol.

How it works

Soluble fibre forms a gel in the digestive tract that binds bile acids (made from cholesterol), preventing reabsorption and forcing the liver to use more cholesterol to make new bile acids.

What to watch for

Requires consistent daily intake to maintain effect. Oat products containing added sugar may offset cardiovascular benefits.
