for Acne
Prescription oral doxycycline (50–100mg daily) used for moderate-to-severe inflammatory acne, typically alongside a topical retinoid for 3–6 months.
How it works
Doxycycline inhibits P. acnes protein synthesis (30S ribosomal inhibition) and independently suppresses inflammatory cytokine production in the pilosebaceous unit.
What to watch for
Always combine with topical retinoid to prevent resistance. Maximum 3–6 months to minimise resistance development. Take with food. Sun sensitivity is common. Not for pregnancy or children under 8.
