Oral Rehydration Therapy

for Nausea

Sipping small amounts of oral rehydration solution (ORS) or electrolyte fluids to maintain hydration and electrolyte balance during nausea and vomiting.

How it works

ORS uses the sodium-glucose cotransporter to maximise absorption even during gastroenteritis. Maintaining electrolyte balance stabilises autonomic nervous system tone and reduces nausea.

What to watch for

Sip slowly in small volumes (5–15ml every few minutes) if vomiting is present. Ice chips or popsicles may be better tolerated. Treats hydration, not the underlying cause.
