Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection

for Tendonitis

PRP injections deliver concentrated growth factors from the patient's own blood to the tendon, stimulating tissue repair in chronic tendinopathy that has not responded to exercise.

How it works

High concentration of growth factors (PDGF, TGF-ÎČ, VEGF) stimulates tenocyte proliferation and new collagen synthesis. Most effective for mid-portion tendinopathies with established degenerative changes.

What to watch for

Evidence is mixed and generally shows PRP is not superior to exercise alone. Most effective when combined with a concurrent loading programme. Expensive and not PBS-funded. Requires specialist injection.
