How it works

Monacolin K inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the same enzyme targeted by prescription statins, reducing the liver's production of cholesterol.

Because it contains a statin-like compound, it carries similar risks to prescription statins including muscle pain and liver effects. Not appropriate alongside statin medication. Consult your doctor.

Why strong evidence

Meta-analyses show red yeast rice reduces LDL by 15–25%. However product quality varies significantly β€” monacolin K content is inconsistent across brands.
