for Gout
Regular coffee consumption has been associated with lower uric acid levels and reduced gout risk in large epidemiological studies.
How it works
Coffee contains compounds that may competitively inhibit xanthine oxidase (similar to allopurinol mechanism), and independently lower serum urate. Decaffeinated coffee shows similar effects.
What to watch for
Does not replace medication in established gout. Avoid sugary drinks which raise uric acid. Decaffeinated appears similarly effective, suggesting caffeine is not the active component.
