How it works

Graduated loading progressively stimulates bone adaptation (Wolff's Law) — increasing bone density and periosteal thickness to withstand running forces. Rapid return causes recurrence.

Pain during running should be ≤2/10 and return to baseline within 24 hours. Start with run-walk intervals. A physiotherapist or sports medicine doctor can design an individualised programme.

Finding a practitioner

Seek a qualified and registered practitioner. In Australia, check AHPRA (ahpra.gov.au) for registered health practitioners including physiotherapists, psychologists, and Chinese medicine practitioners.
