How it works

Rosemary oil may improve scalp circulation and has shown inhibition of 5-alpha reductase (the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT, which miniaturises hair follicles) in laboratory studies.

Always dilute in a carrier oil before applying to scalp. Patch test first. Evidence is promising but limited to small studies.

Why limited evidence

One small RCT compared rosemary oil to 2% minoxidil and found comparable results after 6 months with less scalp itching. Promising but needs replication.
