for Hair Loss
An extract from the berries of Serenoa repens used as a natural DHT-blocking supplement to slow androgenetic hair loss.
How it works
Saw palmetto contains fatty acids and phytosterols that inhibit 5-alpha-reductase and competitively block DHT binding to androgen receptors in hair follicles, with a weaker but similar mechanism to finasteride.
What to watch for
Significantly less potent than finasteride. Evidence quality is limited. Standardised extracts (e.g. 320mg Permixon-equivalent) are required. May interact with anticoagulants. Not appropriate as a sole treatment for significant hair loss.
