How it works
Capsaicin activates TRPV1 receptors in nasal mucosa, triggering a neurogenic response that stimulates mucus secretion and briefly increases nasal airflow. Repeated capsaicin exposure may desensitise these receptors, potentially reducing nasal hypersensitivity over time.
Provides temporary relief only — does not treat underlying infection or inflammation. May worsen symptoms in people with acid reflux or GERD. Not suitable for young children. The relief is short-lived and requires repeated consumption.
Dietary changes
Consider speaking to a GP, dietitian, or naturopath before making significant changes to your diet, particularly if you have an existing health condition.
