How it works
Warm humid air moistens dry nasal passages, thins mucus secretions and may provide mild symptomatic relief by loosening congestion.
Be careful with very hot water to avoid burns. Evidence is modest — provides symptomatic relief but does not treat the underlying infection.
A Cochrane review found steam inhalation provides modest benefit for some patients. Most benefit is symptomatic relief rather than resolution.
