How it works
Docusate is a surfactant that allows water and lipids to penetrate the stool, softening it and reducing the effort required for defecation.
What to watch for
Not a laxative — works differently from senna. Less effective than dietary fibre and water for long-term management. Best as a short-term adjunct.
