How it works

Curcumin activates liver detoxification enzymes, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects that protect hepatocytes, and stimulates bile production and flow which helps clear bilirubin.

Traditional use and growing laboratory evidence support turmeric for liver health. At standard culinary and supplement doses it is considered safe. Avoid very high doses in gallstone disease as it stimulates bile flow.

Why limited evidence

Laboratory and animal studies show curcumin has significant hepatoprotective properties. Clinical trials in humans are limited but promising. Long traditional use in Ayurveda for liver conditions.
