How it works
Curcumin inhibits NF-κB and COX-2 inflammatory pathways, reducing production of inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α and IL-6 that drive joint inflammation.
Standard curcumin has poor bioavailability — choose formulations with piperine (black pepper extract) or phospholipid complexes. Avoid high doses with blood thinners.
Multiple RCTs show curcumin comparably effective to ibuprofen for knee osteoarthritis pain with fewer gastrointestinal side effects.
