How it works

Provides a controllable, safe exposure environment that activates the fear response sufficiently to trigger habituation and inhibitory learning. Useful when real-world exposure is logistically difficult.

Requires access to VR exposure software and ideally a trained therapist. Most effective as a step toward real-world exposure, not as a permanent substitute. Evidence strongest for height phobia, flying, and social anxiety.

Finding a practitioner

Seek a qualified and registered practitioner. In Australia, check AHPRA (ahpra.gov.au) for registered health practitioners including physiotherapists, psychologists, and Chinese medicine practitioners.
