How it works
Induces immune tolerance by shifting the response from Th2 to Th1/Treg, reducing IgE levels and mast cell sensitivity. The only treatment that changes the underlying allergic disease.
Requires specialist referral. Subcutaneous injection and sublingual tablet/drops forms are available. Risk of anaphylaxis with injection form (rare, managed in clinic).
Multiple Cochrane reviews confirm both SCIT and SLIT significantly reduce symptoms and medication use in allergic rhinitis, with benefits lasting years after completing treatment.
