for Migraine
A combination of high-dose aspirin and an anti-nausea prokinetic is a guideline-recommended acute treatment for migraine, comparable to sumatriptan in some trials.
How it works
Aspirin inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and platelet aggregation. Metoclopramide enhances aspirin absorption (impaired during migraine) and reduces nausea.
What to watch for
Metoclopramide requires a prescription in many countries and can rarely cause tardive dyskinesia with prolonged use. Aspirin is contraindicated in children under 16 and with anticoagulants.
