for Bacterial Vaginosis
Not rinsing or flushing the inside of the vagina with water, vinegar, or commercial douche products, letting the vagina clean itself without interference.
How it works
Douching washes away protective Lactobacillus bacteria and disrupts normal vaginal pH, which is believed to increase susceptibility to BV and make recurrence more likely.
What to watch for
This is a risk-reduction habit, not a treatment; stopping douching will not cure an active BV infection on its own, but continuing to douche is likely to make things worse or trigger recurrence. Both the CDC and Mayo Clinic advise against douching for any reason.
