for Knee Pain
Boswellia serrata has the strongest herbal evidence for knee osteoarthritis specifically, with multiple RCTs showing reduction in pain and improvement in walking distance.
How it works
Boswellic acids (AKBA in particular) inhibit 5-LOX enzyme, reducing leukotriene-driven synovial inflammation. Also inhibits matrix metalloproteinases that degrade cartilage.
What to watch for
Use standardised AKBA-containing extract (Aflapin or 5-Loxin brands have the most evidence). Generally safe at standard doses. May interact with anticoagulants.
