How it works
Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors, increasing noradrenaline and cortisol. Produces physical symptoms (racing heart, jitteriness) that can be catastrophically misinterpreted by those with panic disorder.
Gradual reduction is preferable to abrupt cessation — caffeine withdrawal itself produces headaches and fatigue. Even moderate intake (2 cups/day) can worsen panic in sensitive individuals.
Dietary changes
Consider speaking to a GP, dietitian, or naturopath before making significant changes to your diet, particularly if you have an existing health condition.
