How it works

Caffeine causes cerebral vasoconstriction and enhances absorption of analgesics. Caffeine withdrawal is itself a common headache trigger.

Only helpful for regular caffeine users. Can worsen headaches in caffeine-sensitive individuals. Avoid in the afternoon if sleep is already disrupted.

Why strong evidence

Meta-analyses confirm caffeine as an effective analgesic adjuvant. Combined with ibuprofen or paracetamol, effect size increases by approximately 40%.
