for Restless Legs Syndrome
Wearing compression socks during the day or using pneumatic compression devices on the legs to reduce RLS sensations, particularly in those with associated venous insufficiency.
How it works
Compression reduces venous pooling and lower limb oedema, which may increase sensorimotor threshold. Pneumatic compression also stimulates A-fibre nerves that can inhibit dysaesthetic sensations.
What to watch for
Most beneficial if RLS is associated with venous disease. Pneumatic devices are more effective but expensive and less portable.
