How it works

These foods lower lower oesophageal sphincter pressure or directly irritate the oesophageal lining, increasing both frequency and severity of reflux.

Response is highly individual. Keep a food diary to identify personal triggers rather than eliminating everything. Coffee is often overstated as a universal trigger.

Why moderate evidence

Evidence supports dietary modification as an adjunct. Alcohol and high-fat meals have the strongest evidence. Individual triggers vary considerably between patients.
