for Fibromyalgia
Duloxetine (an SNRI) is one of only three FDA-approved medications for fibromyalgia, reducing pain through central pain modulation mechanisms.
How it works
Inhibits serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake in descending pain inhibitory pathways, enhancing the brain's endogenous pain suppression system — specifically impaired in fibromyalgia.
What to watch for
Prescription only. Common side effects include nausea, dry mouth, and insomnia. Does not work for everyone. Not appropriate in combination with MAOIs. Gradually taper when discontinuing.
