for ADHD
Some children with ADHD show symptom improvement when artificial food colours and preservatives are removed from the diet — particularly those with food sensitivities.
How it works
Certain artificial food dyes (Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6) may affect neurological function in sensitive individuals. Sodium benzoate in combination with certain dyes has shown effects in RCTs.
What to watch for
Evidence is most consistent for a subgroup of children with ADHD and food sensitivity — not universal. An elimination trial under dietitian supervision is the best way to assess individual response.
